(GGF or Great Great Fred)

Doug got into acting accidentally in the Cayman Islands when he auditioned for the feature film, The Firm, and appeared as an older gentleman. He was hooked on acting and began performing with local theater groups. When he came back to Canada he kept acting in local productions such as Arsenic and Old Lace, Adventures of Tom Sawyer and as the King in The King and I. He also played Norman in On Golden Pond and Nunzio in Over the River and Into the Woods. He then got serious about acting was chosen for parts in tv commercials and in the tv production of Betrayal. His role as beloved GGF in A Thousand Hills is first film appearance. He created an eccentric old man that became the champion of David’s attempt to save the farm. His comical mannerisms and playful attitude in supporting the children’s efforts brought a unique richness to the Byrd family. Doug is also a writer and his series of short stories, Pirates of Tortugas, is due to be published. He wants to keep acting and at some point to venture into producing.
