Jon Bowes
(David Byrd)

It all began in the backyard dramas that Jon and his sister created as young children. He was always beaming and joyful and at 3 he was spotted by an agent who asked, ”Can he take direction?’ The family decided not to accept the offer but enrolled him in classes for acting, singing and piano. A born performer and comedian, he continually won classes in music festivals in voice, piano and trumpet. He was chosen for leads in local musicals and dramas: on two different years Michael and later, Peter Pan in Peter Pan, David in I Believe in Christmas, Ryan in High School Musical and Lysander in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. His family dabbled in making short films and he played many parts on camera. His first role in a feature length film was as Shrimp in Street Vibes. He then played David in the TV pilot of I Believe in Christmas. But his most significant and challenging role to date has been as David in A Thousand Hills. His voice actually did change two months after completing A Thousand Hills. He had to fake the ‘puberty’ voice. His worst day on the set began while shooting in a chicken coop when his eyes swelled shut from an allergic reaction to something. He was scheduled to shoot still photos that day plus more scenes. Shooting had to be delayed while antihistamines took down the swelling. Jon didn’t mind. He had free time to joke around with the cast and crew for a change. He was accepted for a missions trip before the film was planned so he went away for a week during filming and helped build a house for a poor family in Mexico. The kids there called him ‘Hollywood’. He spent all of his money on presents for the cast and a huge bright blue sombrero so that he had nothing left for food on the return flight. A stranger at an airport McDonalds in Baltimore gave him $10 so he could eat something. He is now close to 6 ft., on the rugby and tennis teams, is learning life-guarding, loves snow-boarding and surfing, plays guitar and sings. He’s thinking about what he wants to do with his life but is fairly certain that he wants to keep acting.
